The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) exists to help improve the quality, sustainability and productivity of health and social care in England. We do this by producing guidance and information on effective practice and public health interventions, supporting better decisions and helping the health and care system to prioritise its investment. We take account of value for money in developing our guidance, by recognising that new forms of practice need to demonstrate the benefits they bring against what they displace, and by recommending better targeting of interventions of limited value and opportunities for disinvesting from ineffective interventions. Our guidance and information are evidence-based and often require challenging decisions made under public and media scrutiny.
Our objectives support the wider system priorities, including delivering the NHS Long Term Plan, managing the risks and opportunities of EU Exit, and supporting the ambitions of the life sciences industrial strategy. We operate within - and we influence - a system consistently adapting to technological innovation, and we support the UK’s ambition to enhance its position as a global life sciences destination.
With the forthcoming retirement of our Chief Executive Sir Andrew Dillon, the board is seeking an exceptional individual who can provide strategic leadership to the Institute, someone who will ensure effective working relationships with key partner agencies in the health and care system as well as in Government, the public and professional communities, and with the life sciences industry. As we seek to take advantage of new data sources and digital technologies, you will bring strategic insight and the capability to initiate change. With experience from within the health and social care system in England, or with the ability to quickly develop an excellent grasp of it, you will have the intellectual acuity to manage complex stakeholder and wider system relationships, the personal credibility to represent the Institute externally, and a leadership style suitable to harness the skills of a highly qualified staff comprising world-renowned experts.
